Placement Testing (ACCUPLACER)

All students initially registering for college-credit courses
at Belmont Technical College must complete a four-part placement
test (reading, writing skills, numerical skills, and elementary
algebra). Placement test scores will determine placement into
Basic Skills courses of mathematics, grammar, writing, and reading
prior to degree-track offerings. (See specific course prerequisites.)
Placement testing is done on a scheduled basis and scored immediately.
Phone the Charles W. Kocher Student Success Center at (740) 695-9500 ext. 1080 or(800) 423-1188 ext 1080 to register. Students wishing to retest immediately
are subject to a $15 retest fee.
Students who must take a placement test are:
- Full-time
- Part-time taking 6 or more hours.
- Part-time having accumulated 18 or more hours of Belmont
Technical College credit.

Students exempt from a placement test are:
- Those possessing associate or bachelor's degrees from
accredited institutions
- Those:
a. registering for courses with no placement testing
prerequisites and
b. who have not yet accumulated 18 or more hours
Belmont Technical College credit.
- Those transferring substitute credits from accredited
institutions.
- Senior citizens (age 60 or above).
- Those auditing classes.
- Those in good standing documented by an accredited
institution.
- Those who provide ACT scores either on their high
school transcript or an official ACT score report.
