Placement Testing (ACCUPLACER)

All students initially registering for college-credit courses at Belmont Technical College must complete a four-part placement test (reading, writing skills, numerical skills, and elementary algebra). Placement test scores will determine placement into Basic Skills courses of mathematics, grammar, writing, and reading prior to degree-track offerings. (See specific course prerequisites.)

Placement testing is done on a scheduled basis and scored immediately. Phone the Charles W. Kocher Student Success Center at (740) 695-9500 ext. 1080 or(800) 423-1188 ext 1080 to register. Students wishing to retest immediately are subject to a $15 retest fee.

Students who must take a placement test are:
  1. Full-time
  2. Part-time taking 6 or more hours.
  3. Part-time having accumulated 18 or more hours of Belmont Technical College credit.

Students exempt from a placement test are:

    b. who have not yet accumulated 18 or more hours Belmont Technical College credit.

  3. Those transferring substitute credits from accredited institutions.
  4. Senior citizens (age 60 or above).
  5. Those auditing classes.
  6. Those in good standing documented by an accredited institution.
  7. Those who provide ACT scores either on their high school transcript or an official ACT score report.
