Seeking re-admission to a BTC degree or certificate program?

If you have you started coursework of a program at BTC but have not attended for a year or more and:

  • Want to re-enter and complete the same program
  • Want to pursue a new program of study
  • Want to continue working on prerequisite coursework/other requirements to be eligible to enter a program of study

    Returning Student Application

    Welcome back to BTC!

New Intent:

If you are returning to BTC and applying for a different program than the one you started, we recommend you follow the First Time Student directions. We will review your prior test scores and general education coursework for equivalency to your new program. If you previously had transcripts evaluated, we recommend you email to request they be re-evaluated for your new program of interest.

Original Intent:

If you are returning to the same program you began a year or more ago, you will need to submit a new application and speak with the Program Instructor, you can find out who the instructors for your program of interest by visiting

Program faculty will determine how your prior program coursework applies to the current program curriculum.

Important Points:

  • Returning students must meet any new program admissions requirements, which may include retaking the ACCUPLACER assessment or previously completed coursework, to meet current program level requirements.
  • Students may return one time only to the same program at priority placement for a negotiated re-entry date
  • Readmitted students are enrolled on a space-available basis.

    Paying for College

To get started, complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online at Include BTC's Federal School Code (016227). All financial aid correspondence is through your email, as entered on the FAFSA.

There are many types of financial aid available, including aid through FAFSA:

  • Grants
    • Federal Pell Grant
    • Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG)
    • State Need Grant (SNG)
  • Loans
    • Stafford Loans
    • Parent Loan for Undergraduate Students (PLUS)
  • Work Study
    • State Work Study

Other financial aid may be available to you outside of the FAFSA application. Some funding options come through BTC grants, others from outside sources. You may need to work with multiple offices/agencies in securing these funds.

    • WorkFirst
    • Opportunity Grant
    • Basic Food Employment & Training (BFET)
  • Scholarships – through the BTC Foundation and outside scholarships
  • Outside Agency Funding (contact the agency that you may qualify for)
    • Veterans benefits
    • Division of Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR) – students with disabilities
    • Employment Security (ESO) – students eligible for Trade Act funding
    • Labor and Industries (L&I) – on-the-job injuries
    • Northwest Workforce Development Council (NWDC) – dislocated worker and low income scholarships
    • Tribal Funding

When you have done your FAFSA, log into the Financial Aid Portal where you can view your financial aid status and awards from any of the above sources 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.     Register and Pay

    Let’s get you enrolled!

Now that you know what program you are interested in, what classes you have placed into, and how you are going to pay for college, you are ready to sign up for classes!


Will you be a full-time or part-time student? It depends on your needs, as well as space availability and program offerings. We recommend that you meet with your advisor to make an educational plan and consider your options. You can make an appointment by contacting the Admissions & Advising at 360.752.8345 or

Online or in-person? BTC offers a number of flexible learning options for students. Be aware that online classes require the same time commitment as face-to-face classes, if not more. For more information visit the elearning webpage.

When can I register?

Students are eligible to register for classes according to the campus calendar. If you are admitted to a program, you may be invited to register during New Program Student Registration. Check to see if you have an assigned registration access time. If you do not have an assigned access time, you are welcome to register during General Registration.

How do I register?

Register online at or myBTC portal. Phone and fax registration are also available. For help, contact the Registration Department by phone at 360.752.8350, by email at, or stop by Registration on the main floor of the College Services (CS) building.

Are you a Running Start student? You’ll need to register in person. For detailed information regarding your admissions steps, please review the High School Running Start Student tab.

BTC will contact you primarily through your BTC student email account. Don’t forget to activate your email account!

Pay Tuition and Fees

Payment is due by the date specified on the College Calendar. Pay online with a VISA or MasterCard credit (not debit) card, or at the Cashier window, College Services (CS) building, where you may use cash, check, VISA, MasterCard, or financial aid award.

Studying at a Distance

If you are taking any online or hybrid classes, be sure to set up and check your BTC email for instructions on how to access your classes..

Get a Student ID Card

A photo ID or student ID card is required for some registration transactions.

Starting Monday, July 16th, 2018: Student ID cards will be available, at no cost, in the Student Center -CC 300 (3rd floor, Campus Center building). Please bring photo ID during normal business hours.

Your Student ID qualifies you for discounts on Whatcom Transit Authority (WTA) bus passes and at many local vendors, plus access to the Western Washington University and Whatcom Community College libraries.

Purchase Books

Find textbook lists or take your printed class schedule to the Campus Store, located in the Campus Center (CC) building. Tip: We do NOT recommend purchasing texts for any other quarter than the current one in which you are registered.
