Bellingham Technical College offers a variety of Health and Safety classes as part of our commitment to the community. Course offerings include first aid, CPR, EMT training, and fire extinguisher training, just to name a few. Many of these courses meet employment requirements and follow OSHA and L&I rules.


    Advanced Hypnotherapy TechniquesHYPN 103

    This course is the third in a 3-part series for the serious student wishing to use hypnotherapy as a career, or to supplement an existing healthcare field and practice. Upon successful completion, the student is eligible to apply to become a registered Hypnotherapist with Washington State through the Department of Health.

  • Basic Hypnosis - Learning for Healthcare FieldHYPN 101

    A course which teaches basic hypnosis/self-hypnosis, and is the first in a 3-part series. It may be learned for personal growth, as well as a pre-requisite for the study of professional hypnotherapy. It is approved by the International Medical and Dental Hypnotherapy Association, the National Society of clinical Hypnotherapists, as well as other professional hypnosis associations.

    This course is designed to update those who hold a current AHA CPR BLS for Healthcare Providers card. Topics will include adult, child, and infant CPR, relief of foreign body airway obstruction, ventilation techniques using pocket masks and bag-valve masks, and use of the automatic external defibrillator.   • CPR: Instructor Course AHAHLTH 111

    This 8-hour course prepares the student to teach CPR as an American Heart Association instructor. This course will cover adult, child and infant basic life support skills using the newly established 2005 CPR guidelines. Previous training in CPR is preferred but not required. Students are required to purchase the instructor guides and the CORE Instructor materials prior to class. Must show proof of completing, through independent study, the CORE Instructor Program prior to class.

  • First Aid FundamentalsHLTH 155

    This eight-hour first aid course is in compliance with WAC 296-24 of the State of Washington and meets OSHA/WISHA requirements for first aid training. This course teaches the fundamentals of first aid in order to gain access to the EMS system, render emergency care in a low-risk occupational environment, and teaches adult CPR and obstructed airway techniques. Both CPR and first aid cards are good for two years. Attendance at all sessions and demonstration of competency is required for certification.

    This is an approved State of Washington course that leads to certification as a flagger. Course work includes traffic control, signs, channelization, devices used, and practical application. Students must be at least 18 years old and have the ability to speak and read English.

  • Forklift Driver CertificationCODR 125

    This course provides the student with forklift driving safety knowledge and skills to comply with OSHA/WISHA, and meets WAC 296.863.60005 requirements. Instruction emphasizes prevention of workplace related hazards, accidents, and injuries. Students will be awarded the Ives Mobile Equipment Operator's Certification. Employers must also test an employee's ability and provide additional training on any different conditions specific to a particular job site.

    This course will teach both professional level CPR and first aid. CPR will cover adult, child and infant skills, barrier devices and use of the AED (automated external defibrillator). The first aid component will cover all requirements per OSHA and WISHA and will discuss some advanced first aid skills. The CPR portion does require a written exam to be passed with 84% as well as skills evaluation prior to card issuance. Text required.

    This course is provided in partnership with the Bellingham Power Squadron chapter of the US Power Squadrons. It qualifies for WA state boater education card. Includes government safety regulations, boat types, adverse weather and emergency conditions, radio procedures, navigation rules, anchoring, knots, trailering, and water sports safety. Charting and GPS procedures feature emphasis on local waters. Registration fee includes textbook. Students (or student couples) will use a NOAA chart 18421 and a pair of navigation dividers. Instructor will discuss options for purchase at local marine stores and printing shops.

    New from the American Heart Association, this course, specifically for those who work in a childcare setting, covers materials not traditionally taught (splinting, eye infections, immunizations, emergency plans) in standard first aid classes. Those who are recommended to attend are: school teachers, coaches, camp and troop leaders, counselors, foster parents, babysitters, etc. A combined First Aid and CPR (infant and child) card will be issued and good for two years.
