BTC’s Transitional Studies program (formerly Basic Academic Skills) can help your improve your basic reading, writing, math, and workplace skills. As comprehension and communication progress, so will your ability to express yourself and function effectively in the workplace. The goal is for every graduate to get and keep a good job.

Program Requirements

To be eligible for Transitional Studies programs, you must:

  • Complete a basic skills assessment (CASAS).
  • Attend an orientation session
  • Commit to regular attendance.
  • Be able to participate positively in an adult learning environment.
  • Be 16 years or older and not enrolled in high school (those 16 – 18 must submit “Request for Approval to Test GED Certificate” signed by a high school representative).

Classes are offered in the morning, afternoon, and evening. See the Quarterly Schedule for class times.

College Readiness, GED, ESL Orientation Sessions

In orientation, you will:

  • Learn more about classes
  • Take a Basic Skills Assessment
  • Explore goal setting and career paths
  • Learn about BTC Student Services
  • Start your registration paperwork

Due to Coronavirus pandemic, we will not be holding in person orientations. Please complete the ABE/GED/HS+ Application online.

  • Summer Quarter 2020 Dates: July 8 to August 31.
  • Fall Quarter 2020 Dates: September 28 to December 17.
