II. Points of Pride

A. OCAN Grant - The AQIP team for Student Success is working with several partners on a retention strategy we have called “Persistence to Success.”  “Persistence to Success” has received a grant from the Ohio College Access Network (OCAN) to implement our strategy with matching funds from BTC and its partners. The overall goal is to increase our persistence rate among all students seeking degrees.  The strategic plan includes case management advising; study groups for killer courses; an attendance and academic intervention program; wellness programming; and much more.  BTC hopes to sustain the programs and initiatives once the 28 month grant is completed.

B. Student Success Center - Belmont Technical College created a space where students can achieve what the late Dean Charles W. Kocher dedicated his life to - Student Success. Services provided are: make-up testing, placement and exit testing, individualized tutoring, drop-in math tutoring, drop-in writing assistance, and an open computer lab.

C. Right Start Program - Right Start is a day long orientation designed to help energize students for their first day of class. Through a variety of exercises, demonstrations and guest speakers, students are exposed to skills necessary for success in college. Students are also made aware to those issues most likely to cause academic difficulties during their first quarter in college.

D. Case Management Advising - Belmont Technical College will adopt a pilot case management advising program for students who are pursuing the new joint degrees between BTC and Ohio University Eastern. This pilot project requires the completion of a structured model which tracks the student's progress to their desired goal. Students identified in this cohort will receive individual and group advising and access to additional scholarships. Additional cohorts of students will be added as the grant progresses.

E. Cindy L. Jones Child Development Center - Child care is available on the Main Campus for children of enrolled students. Our impeccable safety and security record at the Child Development Center means you can concentrate on your studies - while your child safely explores this rich learning environment.  We work with various county and state agencies that make our care center affordable for everyone.  Our high-quality care combined with reasonable rates equals a child care value that is unbeatable!

III. Learning Philosophy

A. Core Learning Outcomes (CLO) - The following core learning outcomes are the goals of all members of the Belmont Technical College (BTC) community. BTC believes that when practiced across the life span, the goals encourage:

  1. personal and professional growth
  2. the ability to function in an employment situation and in the world at large
  3. community service
  4. good citizenship
