The world economy runs on information, yet companies today face a shortage of information workers. Every company requires knowledgeable computer ‘gurus’ to keep it running. Working toward a computer science degree will give you an advantage over other potential hires. Do you want to become one of those qualified workers? If your answer is a resounding “Yes!” then head straight toward the Information Technology Engineering Major: Computer Science Specialty! This high-tech, pioneering program emphasizes:

  • Computer hardware
  • Operating systems
  • Networks (hardware side using routers and switches)
  • Systematic troubleshooting
  • Laboratory work that enhances course materials
  • Vital, hands-on skills

This program also includes the Cisco Networking Academy, a program that trains students to design, install, and maintain computer networks. Belmont Technical College, in partnership with Cisco Systems, provides the training required to compete in an increasingly technologically-dependent workplace:

  • Upon completion of NET151-154, students will be prepared to take the Cisco Certified New Associate (CCNA) certification exam.
  • Upon completion of NET141-142, students will be prepared to take the CompTIA A+ and Network+ certification exams

The successful graduate of this dynamic program will be prepared to work with:

  • Companies that utilize computers/networks in business, computation, and control activities
  • Companies that design, manufacture, market, install, and service computers and networking equipment

Many BTC graduates work in IT Departments for area hospitals, schools, and consulting companies.

Many students also use electives to take key courses from the Network Administration major, so they are prepared in both the hardware and software worlds of networking.

This program allows the ‘technical’ part of you to shine brightly and enables you to put your best foot forward. Belmont College beckons you to join the information age as you soar through the Computer Science Specialty!

Learning Outcomes:

  1. Gain an understanding of electronics to create and troubleshoot data cables of copper and fiber.
  2. Prepare to sit for the A+ (upgrade and repair) certification and the Cisco Certified Network Associate certification.
