Firefighter/Paramedic (PFS)

View the required classes for the Firefighter Paramedic program.

This degree includes training in both Firefighting and Emergency Medical Services and allows the students to stack state certifications throughout the program. This degree provides the student with the knowledge, skills, and certifications to obtain a position as a paid firefighter/paramedic in Ohio. 

Structured around the Ohio Division of Emergency Medical Service’s programs

  • EMT Basic
  • EMT Intermediate
  • Paramedic
  • Career Firefighter (Firefighter 1 & 2)

Although this program is designed for those who have little or no experience/certification in Firefighting or EMS, experienced students may also apply.

Successful students will be eligible to test for the following certificationsOhio Volunteer Firefighter

  • Ohio Firefighter I
  • Ohio Firefighter II
  • Ohio EMT- Basic
  • Ohio EMT- Intermediate
  • Ohio  Paramedic
  • NREMT - Paramedic
  • ACLS
  • PALS
  • ITLS Provider
  • Pediatric ITLS

Testing/certification eligibility is stipulated by the Ohio Division of EMS

Learning Outcomes:

  1. Write complete and proper pre-hospital run reports.
  2. Receive positive preceptor evaluations.
  3. Complete and pass their NR practical skills during final quarter.
  4. Complete fire journal with a minimum of 50 articles.
  5. Pass a practical skills test at the end of the program passing all skills.
  6. Pass the State certification examination.
