Student Laptop Policy

Belmont College Appropriate Use Policy

The circulation policy for student laptops follows the current Acceptable Use Policy in addition to the following rules:

  • Only Belmont College students may check out a student laptop.
  • Any student checking out a laptop must have a valid Belmont College Learning Commons library card and access to their Belmont student email account.
  • Laptops will be used only for ACADEMIC PURPOSES. Any student found in violation of this policy, in any way, will be banned from further laptop borrowing privileges. Evidence of illegal or improper laptop use will be reported to the appropriate authorities.
  • Due to the limited number of units, laptops will be checked out on a first-come, first-serve basis. When laptops are not available students will be placed on a waiting list and contacted through their student email accounts when a laptop becomes available.
  • Laptops will be held for two business days after the notification email has been sent. Students who have not retrieved held laptops within this time will be removed from the waiting list.
  • Laptops will circulate for one week and may be renewed for one additional week, given that no further holds have been placed.

Fines and Damages

  • Late fees are $5.00 per day. Any laptop that is one month overdue will be declared lost and a replacement fee will be charged and a hold placed on their record. If the laptop is returned in good condition, a portion of the replacement fee may be waived. Fines will not be waived.
  • A hold on a student record may prevent registering for classes, withdrawing from classes, changing schedules, and any type of transaction that requires the use of the student’s record.
  • Students are responsible, at all times, for any damage to the laptop while it is checked out to them. Students will be charged a damage fee equal to a maintenance/repair fee, or a replacement cost of $1,000.00 in addition to a processing fee of $5.00.
  • Students may not lend the laptop to anyone else.
  • LAPTOPS SHOULD NEVER BE LEFT UNATTENDED. Students will be charged a replacement fee if the laptop is reported missing or stolen while checked out on their account.
  • Students may not make any modifications to a laptop, including installing/uninstalling software, hardware, or altering system settings.
  • Anything, including but not limited to documents and programs, saved to the hard drive of a returning laptop will be removed.
