Summer School Age Program

The School Age Program is for children who have completed Kindergarten through age 12. Activities and projects are made each day and may include, but are not limited to, art and science projects (e.g., paper mache, painting, insect collection, nature walks), math and literacy activities (e.g., board games, listening center, writing center), and small and large motor activities (e.g., baseball, obstacle courses). A morning and afternoon snack is offered daily. Children bring their own lunches.

Sample Summer School Age Schedule

7:30-9:00 Program opens. Children choose from a variety of activities such as fuse beads, craft work, books, puzzles, art, cards, etc… Children are encouraged to interact socially, while building communication and life skills by sharing stories and discussing events in their lives.
9:00-9:15 Clean-up time for snack. Restroom and washing for snack.
9:15-9:30 Morning snack time. Wash tables and clean-up from snack time.
9:30-10:15 Group time discussion/ discuss the planned events for the day. Morning story time, journal writing, learning to use phone books and encyclopedias. Creation of word walls and using the dictionary.
10:15-11:00 Morning centers- planned activities that will allow children to experience all curricular areas including math, science, language, music, social studies, and dramatic play.
11:00-11:45 Outside play and gross motor activities. Water balloons, sprinklers, relays, basketball, volleyball, etc…
11:45-12:00 Restroom and washing for lunch.
12:00-12:30 Lunch time. Children need to remain in their seats during this time. This is NOT free time. Soft conversation and soft music may occur during this time.
12:30-1:00 Quiet time. Children may sit or lie quietly or do silent reading or coloring pages during this time period. Children should be spread far enough from one another that they cannot touch another child.
1:00-1:30 Science Experiment time!
1:30-2:00 ½ hour video/movies approved by the Director in advance.
2:00-2:45 Afternoon centers- art, crafts, listening center for music, nature walks. Some outside play/ gross motor activities when the weather is not rainy or extremely hot.
2:45-3:00 Clean-up time for snack. Restroom and washing for snack.
3:00-3:15 Afternoon snack time.
3:15-3:30 Wash tables and clean-up.
3:30-4:00 Children choose from a variety of activities such as games, books, puzzles, art, cards, etc…
4:00-4:30 Free play, quiet time until families arrive for pick-up.
