Cancellation Procedures
The following language will be used when announcing cancellations:
- College Closed – This means that no one should report to the college facilities.
- Classes Cancelled – This means that we have cancelled classes and that staff, to the best of their ability and within their best judgment of safety, should report to work. Maintenance Staff, who should report as instructed by the Director of Facilities.
- Begin with a ___ o’clock schedule – This means that we are delaying for a period of time and that all activities will start at the hour assigned. All instructors and students should report to wherever they would have been at ___ o’clock, had there been no delay. Staff should report as necessary for a ___ o’clock start.
For example: “We will begin with a 10 o’clock schedule” means that all instructors and
students should be wherever they would have been at 10:00 a.m. if there had been no
delay. Staff should report as necessary for a 10:00 a.m. start.
- There will be a ___-hour delay – Delay is based on a start time of 8:00 a.m. All instructors and students should report to wherever they would have been at ___ o’clock had there been no delay. Staff should report as necessary for a ___ o’clock start.
Examples:
“There will be a 1-hour delay” means that instructors and students should be wherever they would have been at 9:00 a.m. if there had been no delay. Staff should report as necessary for a 9:00 a.m. start.
“There will be a 2-hour delay” means that instructors and students should be wherever they would have been at 10:00 a.m. if there had been no delay. Staff should report as necessary for a 10:00 a.m. start.
- Evening Classes are Cancelled – This means that all classes that start after 5:00 p.m. will not meet. The College will be closed when the last classes in session at 5:00 p.m. have ended. Maintenance Staff should report as instructed by the Director of Facilities.
Also be aware that there could be closures or delays specific to one location ONLY (ie North Center, Monroe County Center, or Main Campus) as well as a specific buildings (Main, Natural Science, Science and Engineering).
