Belmont College at a Glance

Belmont College is your community’s college. Belmont offers the following degrees:

• Transfer Degrees  
  • Associate of Arts (AA) degree -- awarded for a liberal arts pre-baccalaureate program intended for transfer to a four-year college or university. The AA graduate will usually complete a bachelor's degree with a major in the social sciences or humanities, but may choose to treat the degree as terminal.  
  • Associate of Science (AS) degree -- pre-baccalaureate degree similarly awarded to students intending transfer to a four-year college or university, but the areas of concentration for the bachelor's degree will usually be natural/physical sciences, business, or engineering. This degree may also be treated as terminal.
• Career/Professional Degrees
  • Associate of Applied Business (AAB) degree -- often awarded for programs that are terminal, but may also be intended for transfer to a four-year college or university, usually with a concentration in one of the business majors, such as accounting or business management.
  • Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree -- awarded for programs that are terminal or for potential transfer to a four-year college or university, usually with a concentration in one of the health- or science-based majors, such as nursing, engineering, or computer science. 
• Certificates are awarded for specific studies that may be completed in one year or less.
• Certifications are a designation earned by a person to assure qualification to perform a specific job or task.

Classes are held at 3 locations and online:

• The Main Campus Building, located at exit 213 off Interstate 70, accommodates programs, classes and pre-baccalaureate studies in the Business, Computing, Engineering, Nursing, Allied Health, and Public Service Technologies. It also houses the Applied Technology and Innovation Center (ATIC), Horizon Hall, child development facilities, student services, Library/Learning Commons, business office, computer laboratories, administrative services, cafeteria, student lounge area, and a full-service bookstore. The Charles W. Kocher Student Success Center opened in 2004. This innovative addition to Belmont provides the College community with a multitude of services in one location. Services provided are testing, make-up testing, general tutoring, drop-in writing tutoring, open computer lab with 28 computers, classrooms, and meeting rooms.

  The Workforce Development and Community Education Department, also located on the Main Campus, promotes economic viability by providing resources, services, training, and education to assist individual, business, industry, and community growth.

  Also located near the Main Campus is the Science and Engineering Building, easily accessible from Interstate 70 at exit 213. It is located on the Ohio University Eastern Campus within sight of the Main Building. The Science and Engineering Building houses classrooms and laboratories for programs in Welding, Heating; Ventilation, and Air Conditioning; and Building Preservation/Restoration.

  The Natural Science Building houses classrooms and laboratories for the biology, anatomy and physiology, and microbiology courses. The building is located directly across Route 331, and students can easily walk to class from the Main Building.

  The Morristown Field Lab for the Building Preservation/Restoration program is the 1846 Swaney House, a Federal-style masonry house in the Morristown Historic District, a short drive from campus. The house is the subject of an ongoing restoration project directed by the faculty and performed by the students.

• The North Center is located off Route 9 south of Cadiz, near the entrance to Sally Buffalo Park. Both credit and noncredit classes are offered at this off-campus site. Advising and financial aid services are also available at the North Center.

• The Monroe County Center located at the Black Walnut Center and Swiss Hill Career Center in Woodsfield offers expanded educational opportunities in our southern service area. College credit can be obtained in such areas as accounting, business, communications, computers, medical terminology, medical coding, psychology, and other areas of study. Also offered in Monroe County are non-credit classes such as quilting, cake decorating, photography, first aid/CPR, dancing, and introductory courses to specific computer software programs.

• E-Learning and Distance Education are additional options for completing a degree. Similar to a traditional on-campus courses, an online course follows a schedule and syllabus with quizzes, assignments, required readings, chat sessions, and discussion board postings usually due by prescribed dates. Instead of attending lecture sessions in a classroom, online students access course content via the internet through PowerPoint presentations, podcasts, video demonstrations, assignments, websites, etc. The instructor maintains contact with the students through online office hours, chat sessions, email, and telephone.
