BTC Leadership Institute
Belmont Technical College Kicks Off Second Leadership Institute Preparation for the second round of Belmont Technical Colleges highly successful Leadership Institute has begun, with a full range of classes being planned for October. The original inspiration for the institute came from BTC Board of Trustees Member Marcia Bedway, said Dr. Joseph E. Bukowski, BTC president. Its mission is to provide educational opportunities that build leadership skills, share college resources to enhance leadership capacity, and connect new leaders with seasoned ones willing to share their experience. It is for new leaders who have the desire and capacity to serve their communities but need to build their skills, and veteran leaders who would like to refresh theirs. Members of the first class are already at work on various efforts both on the job and on civic projects. Linda Poland, Acting Dean of Workforce Development and Community Education, BTC is an alumni of the first class. She told of the networking and educational opportunities presented to her by the first class. She also said that the ambition and drive of upcoming leaders is apparent, but the tools are lacking. This class is designed to address that need. Out of the first class, all but one finished the courses, and the one completed what his work schedule would allow. Rachel Miller, Program Coordinator of the BTC Leadership Community Institute said companies wanting to develop leadership within the ranks are asked to sponsor their employees by paying for their classes, as well as allow them one day a month to take them. The committee will now select a series of programs designed to be of most value for both new and veteran leaders. Possible subjects include media relations, conflict management, vision, strategic planning and ethics. On the steering committee are Carol E. Austin, Bedway; Cadiz Mayor Don Bethel; Ronald Bischof, Robert Campbell, Sam W. Cunningham, Sue Douglas, W. Meek Duvall, Greg Fehr, Mark Forni, John Kacsmar, Dr. Rebecca J. Kurtz, Gordie Longshaw, Jill Lucidi, Charlene Moffo, Jerry Narcisi, Sheila Perkins, Suzanne Pollock, Michael Sterling, Robert Sterling, Brookside Mayor Robert W. Thomas; St. Clairsville Mayor Robert Vincenzo, and Cindy Voorhies. Those wanting more information, or having suggestions for classes are asked to contact Miller at rmiller@btc.edu.
