Attend ‘First Year Experience’ New Student Orientation

Our new ‘First Year Experience’ (FYE) program has been developed to provide a seamless transition into college for new students. Orientations are scheduled at various times. Please contact our main office or our web site (www.btc.edu) for dates and times. There is no charge for attending this required admissions event and a photo ID is required. During your FYE Orientation you will complete the following:
  • Placement Testing

  • BTC offers the Accuplacer® placement test during the initial portion of the FYE Orientation. This on-line, proctored test is required for all degree- or certificate-seeking students new to college (see the ‘PLACEMENT TESTING’ information in this section for more details, including exemption qualifications).
Students will be tested in three areas: algebra, reading and writing.
All students should have received and reviewed the ‘BTC Study Guide’ prior to testing. Test results from this untimed test are used to determine a student’s current level of academic ability for placement into courses.
BTC also accepts ACT test scores for placement purposes.

  • Advisement

  • Once a student has finished testing, the student will then meet with their program’s academic advisor, who will help the student determine which courses are best suited to help each student achieve academic success at BTC. This may include placement into transitional courses – courses in math and English designed to help students prepare for the rigor of college-level work – that may be required based on your placement test results.

  • Online Course Registration

  • After a student receives advice on their initial schedule of courses, they will then have the opportunity to use their online ‘MyBTC’ account to register for the courses selected. BTC will have staff members and Student Ambassadors on-hand to help students choose course sections for the times and courses needed.
