At BTC we value our out of state students and want to make going to college just a little easier. That’s why we offer the BTC Tuition Waiver of Nonresident Operating Fee Differential. New students are evaluated for this tuition waiver from the admissions application, reducing the cost of tuition.

Explore your Options

BTC offers a variety of exciting educational opportunities. Whether you have decided on a program of study, or not, there is lots of information available to help you understand your options. BTC offer’s Campus Tours, Career Exploration Workshops, New Student Workshops, and Weekly Drop In Counseling for new and prospective students.

Apply to BTC

Once you have decided on a program of study, submit an online application through the WA State Web Admissions Center. Applying online takes approximately 5-10 minutes.

Apply Now! Follow the Quick Start instructions provided by the WA State Web Admissions Center.

Within 72 business hours after applying, you will be assigned a Student Identification Number (SID).

Plan ahead! Several BTC programs have additional admissions prerequisites/requirements which must be completed before you can be considered program ready. Visit the Program & Degrees page for details.

Apply for Financial Aid

Submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov. It’s easy, and should take only about 30 minutes to complete. This step is highly recommended however not required for admission.

You’ll need:

  • A PIN from the Department of Education. This helps them identify you when accessing your information, and acts as your electronic signature. If you are a dependent of your parent or guardian, they will need their own PIN.
  • Income records, such as W2s, copies of federal tax returns, and SSI benefits for the previous year. Dependent students will need their parents’ or guardians’ income records.
  • BTC College Code 016227

You’ll receive a Student Aid Report (SAR) from the Department of Education. This is a summary of the information you provided. Review the SAR carefully. Make any necessary corrections online or contact Financial Aid at finaid@btc.edu for help.

    Assess Your Skills

Degree or certificate-seeking students must take the Accuplacer assessment to evaluate reading, math, and grammar skills.

Accuplacer is not a pass/fail test. It simply measures your current skill level. Your scores will help you choose the right classes, make a plan, and obtain any needed support services. Starting off with Accuplacer means a more successful college experience.

No appointment is needed to take the Accuplacer. Just pay the $25 fee to the BTC Cashier, Campus Store or Campus Store Online and bring your receipt to your test, alone with government issued photo identification such as a driver's license, Tribal ID, TWIC card or passport. Plan to spend about two hours taking the exam. Your Placement Test will be in H Building, Room H-4 during the times scheduled below.

Weekly Accuplacer Assessment Schedule:

  • Mondays 9:00 am to 8:00 pm (arrive by 6:00 pm)
  • Tuesdays through Fridays 9:00 am to 5:00 pm (arrive by 3:00 pm)

    Advising & Registration

    Let’s get you enrolled!

Advising & Registration Session

Students must attend a mandatory Advising and Registration session. This session is facilitated by Academic and Career Advisors who will guide you in learning how to navigate the BTC website, find computer and campus resources that have been designed to assist you with your transition to BTC, and register for classes.

Important Notes:

  • The Accuplacer Test must be completed prior to attending the session.
  • Bring your Student ID number, and a copy of your Accuplacer test scores to the session.
  • If you have prior college credit, please review our Transcript Evaluation Process and bring an unofficial copy of your transcript to the session.
  • Once you have completed the Accuplacer Test or your transcripts have been evaluated, you may sign up for your group Advising & Registration session.
  • If you are receiving L & I benefits, need an accommodation or you cannot attend an Advising & Registration session before the quarter begins please contact the Admissions and Student Resource Center at 360-752-8345.
  • You are strongly encouraged to complete the College Student Inventory before your Advising Session.

You will be invited by emai lto sign-up for an Advising & Registration session after you have completed steps 1 and 2.

Registration Information

Registration dates are published for the beginning of each phase of registration, and individual access times are assigned to students registering prior to General Registration.

  • Check registration dates on the College Calendar
  • Check your access time in myBTC portal if you are a new student planning to start in the upcoming quarter.

Degree/Certificate seeking students will not be able to register for classes until they have attended an Advising & Registration Session. At the session Academic and Career Advisors will assist with registering for classes.

Running Start students will need to register in person. For detailed information regarding your admissions steps, please review the High School Running Start Student tab.

BTC will contact you primarily through your BTC student email account. Don’t forget to activate your email account!

Pay Tuition and Fees

New Student Kick-Off Celebration

The New Student Kickoff Celebration is for new students to make connections, learn about resources available to them, hear useful tips for college success, and meet faculty members. This is a great opportunity to explore BTC’s campus, and mingle with other new students.

Winter 2016 Quarter Kick-Off will be on Tuesday December 6th. Once we are closer to the event, there will be a link found here that will allow you to RSVP for the Kick-Off. If you have any questions please contact the Admissions & Student Resource Center at 360-752-8345.

Pay Tuition and Fees

Student ID Card

A photo ID or Student ID card (available for $8.00 at the Campus Store) is required for some registration transactions. Your Student ID qualifies you for discounts on Whatcom Transit Authority (WTA) bus passes and at many local vendors, plus access to the Western Washington University and Whatcom Community College libraries.


Find textbook lists. Or, take your printed class schedule to the Campus Store, in the Campus Center (CC) building. Tip: We do NOT recommend purchasing texts for any other quarter than the current one in which you are registered.
