"I Never Had to Take Out a Penny in Student Loans..."

For Staci Butkus, paying for college wasn’t ever an issue.

“Because of the Trustees Scholarship, I never had to take out a penny in student loans,” she said. “I came out of college debt free, and not many people can say that.”

Staci Butkus, Risk Manager/Patient Representative at East Ohio Regional Hospital, graduated from the Associate Degree Nursing program in 1995. When she graduated from St. Clairsville High School, she knew she wanted to go into nursing.

“The Trustees Scholarship was the deciding factor in my attending Belmont Technical
College,” said Staci. “I knew I wanted to be a nurse, so another reason was the excellent reputation of the Belmont Technical College Associate Degree Nursing program.”

I really think the experience at Belmont Technical College helped me mature,” said Staci. “I grew as a person because of my classmates and instructors.”

Staci feels that the Trustees Scholarship is a “huge perk” and encourages all graduating high school seniors to consider applying for it.

“I think all high school students should consider the Trustees Scholarship at Belmont Technical College, if they are fresh out of high school, it’s the way to go,” she said.

Staci lives in Belmont, Ohio with her son Matthew, 7. “As a single mother, my career and my education from Belmont Technical College has allowed me to provide a wonderful life for my son,” said Staci. “I have a wonderful job at East Ohio Regional Hospital.”

As a Department Director, Staci handles attorney and lawsuit affairs for the hospital; coordinates insurance and liability issues; identifies risk areas in the hospital; acts as a liaison for patient and family complaints; works as the hospital coordinator for LifeLine of Ohio, an organ/tissue donation program; develops training and education for nurses; and serves on several committees at East Ohio Regional Hospital.

Those heavy job responsibilities are made easier by her education and training from Belmont Technical College.

“While attending Belmont Technical College I was able to meet people from different backgrounds and I formed strong bonds with them.
