Federal Aid Programs

- Federal Pell Grant Program - Federal funds available
to undergraduate students enrolled in a program of study six
months in length or longer. Applications are available from
the Financial Aid Office or online at www.fafsa.ed.gov.
- Academic Competitiveness Grant (ACG)
The Academic Competitiveness Grant is funded by the federal government and is in addition to the Federal Pell Grant. This grant is only given to full-time students in their freshman and sophomore years who have successfully completed a rigorous high school program as determined by the state or local education agency and recognized by the Secretary of Education. Apply through the FAFSA
- Federal Supplemental Education Opportunity Grant (FSEOG) – Allocation of funds is at Belmont Technical College discretion, and awarding of funds is based on need and application date. Apply through the FAFSA. According to federal regulations, students must be Pell-eligible to receive FSEOG funds. You MUST apply EARLY! Funds are limited!
- Federal Work-Study Program - Provides jobs for students
who have financial need and would like to earn money to help
pay educational expenses. The wages received will be equal
to the current Federal minimum wage. Students are eligible
to apply for work-study if they are enrolled at least halftime
(six credit hours).
- Federal Stafford Subsidized Loan - Enables students
who qualify to borrow directly from a bank, credit union,
savings and loan association, or other participating lenders
who are willing to make the loan. Students may apply for a
student loan if they are enrolled or have been accepted for
enrollment at least halftime (six credit hours). Students
who qualify will have the interest on the loan paid by the
Federal government while enrolled in school, and during the
six-month grace period after their last date of enrollment
or during an eligible deferment. Repayment begins six months
after the student graduates or withdraws from college; students
may be allowed up to ten years to repay. On-line
Loan Entrance Counseling is required for all students
applying for Stafford Loans. Once online counseling is complete students may click the next step to complete the online MPN. Before a student leaves college for any reason,
On-line Exit
Counseling must be completed.
- Federal Stafford Unsubsidized Loan - Enables all
students to borrow a Federal Government Loan without regard
to income. Independent students who do not qualify for the
maximum subsidized loan limits may borrow the difference,
plus an additional amount of up to $4,000 under this program.
Students are responsible for the interest while enrolled in
school, during the six-month grace period after their last
date of enrollment, or during an eligible deferment. Repayment
begins six months after the student graduates or withdraws
from college; students may be allowed up to ten years to repay.
