Description:
Introduction to major works of the literature of the Western world in translation. The course develops studentsÂ’ awareness of the broad cultural traditions that human beings share, and familiarizes students with the characteristics and social priorities of several literary genres throughout their modern histories. By encouraging recognition of theme as relevant and contemporary, the course provides a focused orientation to fundamental concerns of the humanities and a foundation for further courses in the humanities. Selections are drawn from the European tradition, Enlightenment through the twentieth century. Course fee of $10.00. (Prerequisite: ENG102 or permission)
