Register for Classes as a Running Start Student

Register in person every quarter.

Your Running Start Enrollment Verification form is specific to each quarter. Bring a new signed form each quarter when you register, preferably before the tuition and fee due date, definitely before the quarter starts!

New Running Start Students see Running Start Admissions. Be prepared! Register at least one week before the quarter starts.

Students and parents/guardians, see FERPA PRIVACY ACT for BTC's policy on privacy of records and releasing of information. A Running Start FERPA form is available in the Running Start contract for you to complete if you chose to share your records.

    Running Start Register

    Enroll early for next quarter!


Running Start students register for classes in person. Come see us!

Register as soon after your registration time as possible for best class selection. When your Running Start Enrollment Form is in early, payment goes more smoothly. Be as ready as possible to start classes.

When can I register?

  1. Check registration dates on the College Calendar
  2. Current Academic Program students, check your access time in myBTC portal.
  3. All Running Start students may register with New Program Students (if not before).
  4. If you are waiting to be admitted into a program, check with Admissions and watch for an invitation to register into program classes.

  1. Bring your completed Running Start Enrollment Verification form to our Running Start Advisor.
  2. Bring your completed and signed Running Start Enrollment Verification form and your completed Registration Form to Registration.
  3. Check your schedule - printed or in myBTC portal.

    Running Start Pay

Pay Tuition and Fees

  • Running Start students pay no tuition for Running Start eligible credits.

  • You will pay program fees, class fees, administrative and student approved fees. Program and class fees are class specific.

  • See Running Start Costs to see rates for Administrative and student approved fees and more information about costs.

  • If you are enrolled for credits which are not Running Start eligible, you will pay resident rate tuition for these additional credits.

Pay When?

  • All Tuition and fees are due by the tuition due date for the quarter.

  • Fall Quarter Exception If you register during the Summer for Fall quarter, your Tuition and Fees are due in full by the first Friday in September to allow for you to obtain your Running Start Enrollment Verification form high school signatures.

  • Registering without a Running Start Enrollment Verification form will result in you being charged full tuition until that form is signed and turned in!

Pay Where?

  • Pay online with a VISA or MasterCard credit (not debit) card

  • Or pay at the Cashier window, College Services (CS) building, where you may use cash, check, VISA, MasterCard, or financial assistance.

Low Income?

  • Contact the Running Start advisor rstart@btc.edu or call 360-752-8459 if you think you may qualify for the Low Income Running Start Waiver.

  • Note: The low Income Waiver remains in effect for the remainder of the school year. Keep in touch! Ask questions!

Most classes at Bellingham Technical College use Canvas.

  • Go to Student Links and view Canvas 101.

  • Login before classes start and read the syllabus for each class.

  • If you are taking an online class, email the instructor if you have questions.

Purchase Books

Find textbook lists. Or, take your printed class schedule to the Campus Store, in the Campus Center (CC) building.

Tip: We do NOT recommend purchasing texts for any other quarter than the current one in which you are registered.


College Calendar

Important dates such as quarter start and end, holidays, drop and withdrawal dates, refund dates, registration dates, payment due, etc. are posted on the College Calendar.


Attend New Student Workshops and Orientations

Learn how to use the BTC Student Portal, network log-in, and much more. Find workshop dates, times, and locations. Find First Things First Orientation AND New Student Kick-Off Orientation.


Get a Student ID Card

A photo ID or Student ID card (available for $8.00 at the Campus Store) is required for some registration transactions. Some programs require a Student ID card.

Your Student ID qualifies you for discounts on Whatcom Transit Authority (WTA) bus passes and at many local vendors, plus access to the Western Washington University and Whatcom Community College libraries.


Attend Classes

BTC requires regular attendance. Attend or contact your instructor by the 2nd day of class or you may be dropped.

For online classes, login and participate in the class. Email the instructor if you have questions.
